Per state law, electric assist bikes and standard bicycle riders are not required to have helmets. 3.30.2026As more e-bikes are on our streets this time of year, the North Mankato Police Department reminds everyone to know where e-bikes are allowed, follow traffic laws, and ride at a safe speed.E-bikes are permitted on streets and, depending on the class, on trails and sidewalks. Class 3 e-bikes are not allowed on trails. Riders must be at least 15 years old to operate an e-bike, and helmets are required for riders under age 18.E-scooters are allowed on streets, trails, and sidewalks. Riders must be at least 12 years old, and helmets are required for riders under age 18.For safety, riders are encouraged to travel at 15 mph or less on sidewalks, city trails and in parks.Riders are reminded to follow traffic laws, ride at a safe speed, yield to pedestrians, and give a quick signal when passing or turning.Learn more about e-bike and e-scooter safety and where to ride by visiting: northmankato.com/e-bike-END-
