Houghton University Endowment Hits $103.7M Milestone

Houghton University's endowment reached $103.775 million, surpassing a major fundraising milestone after rapid growth over the past five years.
The endowment stood at $70 million in 2020, grew to $80 million in 2024, and passed $90 million eleven months ago, according to university officials.
President Wayne D. Lewis Jr. attributed the growth to donor generosity and stewardship by the Board of Trustees' Investment Committee. "Alumni and friends continue to give to ensure Houghton's mission of equipping Christian scholar-servants," Lewis said.
The endowment supports 370 scholarship funds, academic programs, and athletics. More than half the scholarship funds were created since 2011. The university created the Ellen F. Donley Dean of Education & Behavioral Sciences, an endowed chair honoring 1938 alumna Ellen F. Donley, in 2025.
Karl Sisson, vice president for advancement, said the growth "positions Houghton University for an even brighter future." Recent additions include the Peter and Karin Lee Science Equipment Fund, the Music Ministry Travel Fund, and dedicated endowment funds for all 15 intercollegiate sports teams.
