Rip Current Statement Issued for Local Coasts

A Rip Current Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service for Coastal Nassau, Coastal Flagler, St. Johns, Glynn, and Camden counties, warning of dangerous rip currents and rough surf through Saturday night.

A Rip Current Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, FL, advising residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution at area beaches. Dangerous rip currents and rough surf are expected through late Saturday night, October 11, at 6:00 AM EDT.

This statement affects Coastal Nassau, Coastal Flagler, Northeast Coastal St. Johns, Southeast Coastal St. Johns, Coastal Glynn, and Coastal Camden counties.

Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Swimmers are advised to stay near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

Additionally, if travel is required due to other potential impacts, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
