Rip Current Risk High, Minor Coastal Flooding Expected Through Weekend
A High Rip Current Risk and minor coastal flooding are expected for coastal areas of Nassau, Flagler, St. Johns, Glynn, and Camden through the weekend, according to the NWS.
Residents and visitors along the coasts of Nassau, Flagler, St. Johns, Glynn, and Camden are advised of a High Rip Current Risk and minor coastal flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jacksonville, FL, issued a Rip Current Statement effective immediately, October 8, 2026, at 2:05 PM EDT, through late Saturday night, October 11, 2026, at 6:00 AM EDT.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect until 5 PM EDT this afternoon, October 8, 2026, for the affected areas. This advisory warns of minor coastal flooding, which may impact lots, parks, and roads, with only isolated road closures expected. Drivers encountering flooded areas should allow extra travel time and avoid driving around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Property owners in flood-prone areas should take necessary protective actions.
The High Rip Current Risk means dangerous rip currents are present, capable of sweeping even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Beachgoers are strongly advised to swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim directly against the current. Instead, if able, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If escape is not possible, face the shore and call or wave for help.
The affected areas include Coastal Nassau, Coastal Flagler, Northeast Coastal St. Johns, Southeast Coastal St. Johns, Coastal Glynn, and Coastal Camden.
