Russian missiles and drones strike Kyiv overnight, killing more than a dozen
Russian forces conducted an overnight assault on Kyiv using missiles and drones, leaving more than a dozen people dead and hundreds wounded, according to preliminary reports from the attack.
Russia had issued a prior warning that it intended to carry out "systematic strikes" against targets in the Ukrainian capital connected to military operations. Officials in Moscow also urged foreign nationals to leave the city ahead of the strikes.
The overnight barrage targeted multiple locations across Kyiv. Ukrainian officials confirmed the attack occurred but provided limited additional details about specific targets or the full scope of damage.
The strike represents a continuation of Russia's aerial campaign against Ukrainian cities since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022. Russian forces have previously conducted similar overnight attacks on Kyiv using long-range weapons.
