High Winds Expected Near Denver: Secure Loose Objects Now

DENVER, CO – The National Weather Service (NWS) Denver has issued a Special Weather Statement for parts of North Douglas County below 6000 feet, Denver, West Adams and Arapahoe Counties, East Broomfield County, Elbert/Central and East Douglas Counties above 6000 feet, Central and South Weld County, and Central and East Adams and Arapahoe Counties.

Residents in these areas should secure any loose outdoor objects immediately. Doppler radar at 8:33 PM MDT indicated a shower 5 miles north of Watkins, moving north at 15 mph. This system is expected to bring wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph.

Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. The NWS advises monitoring the weather situation closely and being alert for threatening weather conditions.

Locations impacted include Denver, Aurora, Thornton, eastern Westminster, eastern Centennial, Commerce City, Northglenn, Brighton, northern Englewood, Greenwood Village, Federal Heights, Denver International Airport, D.I.A Terminal and Concourses, Fort Lupton, Lochbuie and Hudson. This statement is effective immediately and expires at 9:15 PM MDT tonight.
