CDC Campaign Prompted 1.6 Million Americans to Attempt Quitting Smoking
A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study revealed that 1.6 million smokers in the United States attempted to quit smoking following the agency's "Tips From Former Smokers" national advertising campaign. The CDC released the study's findings, which focused on the impact of the media campaign featuring testimonials from former smokers.
The campaign, launched by the CDC, highlighted the personal health consequences and struggles related to smoking. It included television, radio, and online advertisements, as well as print materials. The CDC used personal stories from former smokers dealing with smoking-related illnesses to connect with current smokers.
Researchers estimate that more than 100,000 Americans successfully quit smoking because of the public health initiative.
