South Miami Awarded $50,000 Grant for Urban Forest Enhancement

October 3, 2024 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE City of South Miami Awarded $50,000 Grant from TD Bank and the Arbor Day Foundation South Miami, FL – The City of South Miami is proud to announce that it has been selected as a recipient of a $50,000 grant from TD Bank and the Arbor Day Foundation through the TD Tree Days Program. This generous grant will significantly enhance the City’s ongoing efforts to expand and improve its urban forest. "We are incredibly grateful to TD Bank and the Arbor Day Foundation for this generous grant,” said Mayor Javier E. Fernandez. “This funding will allow us to plant more trees, educate our community about the importance of urban forestry, and improve the overall quality of life for our residents.” The TD Tree Days Program focuses on community forestry projects that promote environmental stewardship and enhance green spaces in urban areas. The grant will support various initiatives in South Miami, including: Tree Planting: Planting native trees in parks and public spaces to increase shade cover and biodiversity. Community Education: Workshops and events to educate residents about tree care and the benefits of a healthy urban forest. Beautification Projects: Enhancing green spaces throughout the city to create more aesthetically pleasing environments.
