SICKLERVILLE, NJ – The U.S. Department of Labor has proposed more than $446,000 in fines against a New Jersey car wash service for repeatedly exposing workers to hazardous conditions.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited the business for willful violations concerning hazardous energy and excessive noise. The agency found the employer intentionally disregarded safety regulations and showed indifference to employee safety.
Hazardous energy violations, often called lockout/tagout, involve procedures to prevent machinery from unexpectedly starting during maintenance. Excessive noise can cause permanent hearing loss without proper protective equipment or noise reduction measures.
The Department of Labor has not released further details on the specific car wash or the timeline for resolving the citations.
