Rip Current Statement Issued for Local Coasts Through Early Friday

Residents and visitors in Coastal Volusia, Coastal Indian River, Coastal St. Lucie, Coastal Martin, Mainland Northern Brevard, Northern Brevard Barrier Islands, Mainland Southern Brevard, and Southern Brevard Barrier Islands are advised to avoid entering the surf due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Melbourne, FL. The statement is effective immediately, October 1, 2026, at 1:10 PM EDT, and remains in effect until October 2, 2026, at 4:00 AM EDT.

Dangerous rip currents and rough surf are expected along the beaches of Volusia, Brevard, Indian River, Saint Lucie, and Martin Counties. These conditions can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

The NWS strongly discourages entering the surf. If caught in a rip current, individuals should relax and float, avoiding swimming against the current. If able, swim parallel to the shoreline. If escape is not possible, face the shore and call or wave for help. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags, and signs.
