Cole Set for Double-A Rehab Start; Volpe, Rodón Also Progressing
Gerrit Cole, the New York Yankees right-hander, will make his initial rehab start this Friday for Double-A Somerset. This marks his return to game action following Tommy John Surgery. Cole anticipates a full return to the Yankees rotation in late May or early June.
Cole completed several one-inning outings during spring training. He noted improved stamina and pitch quality after a recent bullpen session. In February, Cole's fastball reached 97 mph during live batting practice.
Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe, recovering from offseason labrum surgery, is also with Double-A Somerset. Left-hander Carlos Rodón, who underwent an offseason procedure for his throwing elbow, will throw a live batting practice session on Friday.
