This time of year traditionally brings increased traffic along the Rickenbacker Causeway due to favorable weather, higher beach visitation, and events at nearby venues. While these seasonal conditions are not new, the Village of Key Biscayne recognizes the challenges they can create. The Village wants to share how it is preparing and how residents can stay informed.

Public Safety and Coordination The Key Biscayne Police Department (KBPD) prioritizes the safety of everyone traveling to and from our community. Through long-standing partnerships with regional and local agencies, KBPD works collaboratively to address traffic and roadway concerns, share resources, and respond effectively along the Causeway and within the Village. Ahead of large-scale events, KBPD meets directly with event organizers to review traffic control plans, event logistics, and anticipated community impacts. This coordination allows for preparation and real-time response during busy periods.   Infrastructure and Local Traffic Support The Village’s Public Works team continues to ensure local infrastructure is in peak operating condition while coordinating with partner agencies to help reduce traffic impacts within the Village whenever possible.   Emergency Response You Can Count On Key Biscayne Fire Rescue is always prepared to provide timely and effective emergency medical care. Most emergency calls are treated and stabilized on scene, and all firefighters are 100% Advanced Life Support (ALS)–trained paramedics equipped with advanced medical equipment.   Fire Rescue maintains constant communication with KBPD and can request police escorts when rapid patient transport is needed. When necessary, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue helicopter transport is also available. Transport times and patient outcomes are closely monitored, and, to date, no patient has experienced harm due to traffic-related delays.   Stay Informed The Village is committed to clear and timely communication so residents can plan ahead. Information about upcoming events and anticipated traffic impacts will be shared through Village Connect and the Village and Police Department's official social media channels. If traffic conditions become more severe than expected, KBPD will issue real-time alerts through the VINS system.   Village Connect and VINS are separate notification systems. We encourage residents to sign up for both at keybiscayne.fl.gov/alerts.   Planning Ahead Traffic throughout Miami-Dade County has increased significantly in recent years, particularly during the winter months. While congestion cannot always be avoided, the Village remains focused on preparation, coordination, and communication to minimize impacts whenever possible. We appreciate your patience and encourage you to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during peak periods.
