Clearwater Family Achieves Homeownership with Habitat Program

Clearwater Family Reaches Homeownership Through Habitat Program

Laquanda Thompson and her two children, Jada and LaAnthony, moved into their new Habitat for Humanity home in Clearwater after years of housing instability.

Thompson moved at least twice yearly as rent costs climbed. She discovered Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties and applied to their homeownership program.

The program required Thompson to complete 350 sweat equity hours, attend financial literacy classes, and maintain steady employment. "It was tough balancing work, classes, and family responsibilities," Thompson said. "But I was determined to make it work."

Thompson's children now have their own rooms in the home. "It's a foundation for our future," she said.
