Single Mother's Success Story in Bradenton
Bradenton resident Cequoya, a single mother, built a brighter future for herself and her daughter through her career at Goodwill Manasota. Her journey exemplifies the transformative power of work and the potential for growth within a supportive community.
Cequoya started at Goodwill without a high school diploma, facing challenges common to young single mothers. She began as a cashier at Goodwill’s Honore location. Her dedication quickly led to advancement, first to Sorter/Hanger, and currently to Apparel Lead at the Mecca store, a position she has held for two years.
Goodwill Manasota fosters a supportive work environment, offering full-time hours, bonuses, shopping discounts, and opportunities for personal and professional development. The organization's GoodPartner Coach (GPC) program provides team members with life coaching support. Cequoya utilized GPC guidance to enroll her daughter in a reputable charter school. This school introduced her daughter to opportunities like learning Spanish and crocheting.
Her GPC also encouraged Cequoya to pursue her GED, providing a laptop to assist her studies. Achieving her GED was a significant milestone, enabling her to enroll in Goodwill’s Role Model Worker program and become a certified Role Model Worker. This certification reflects her hard work and dedication.
With a steady income and full-time hours, Cequoya achieved homeownership. She plans to pay off her home by age 55. Her GPC helps her review her Individual Development Plan (IDP), ensuring she stays on track with her goals. Cequoya's story highlights Goodwill's mission to transform lives through work, providing meaningful employment, education, and growth opportunities.
Goodwill Manasota continues to help individuals like Cequoya find their potential. Every donation fuels this mission, supporting a community that lifts its members and strives for a brighter future.
