Job Title: Crime Scene Investigator   Category: Full-TimeApplication Closing Date: October 1, 2026, 5:00 p.m.Application: Click HereSalary and Benefits:$21.02 Per Hour MinimumAnnual Step for Performance Pay Adjustments12 Paid Holidays Per Year12 Vacation Days Minimum, Earned Per Year12 Sick Days Earned Per YearMedical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance Benefits401(a) Retirement Plan and Social Security CoverageEducation/Tuition Assistance Program; and Training and Development OpportunitiesEmployee Assistance Program – to include Mental Health Assistance/ServicesAPPLY NOWEssential Job Functions:The Crime Scene Investigator is a civilian position within the Investigative Services Bureau under the supervision of the Crime Scene/Property & Evidence Supervisor.  Photographs and processes crime scenes for latent fingerprints, spent shell casings; footprints, and other items of evidence.  Photographs and fingerprints deceased persons.  Does aerial photography on major crime scenes when required.  Makes plaster casts; performs tests as necessary.  Attends autopsies as required.  Writes reports and provides court testimony as required.  Operates photographic, fingerprint lifting, and other equipment used in the collection of evidence.  Prepares and packages evidence to be sent to criminal laboratories for processing.  Transports same as needed.  Prepares photo pack lineups of suspects.  Assists with investigations as assigned by a supervisor.  Makes detailed reports on activities.  Processes State Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, and private attorneys’ requests for copies of photos and audio/visual recordings.  Trains new law enforcement officers on basic crime scene techniques.  Issues crime scene kits to officers and detectives. Orders all forensic supplies for the police department and distributes those supplies to department personnel when requested or as needed.  Subject to being “on-call”. This is not intended to be an all-inclusive listing of essential job functions; the performance of other essential functions may be required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Knowledge of the principles, methods, practices, rules, regulations, procedures, and operations of law enforcement; evidence collection and preservation and crime scene procedures; federal, state, and city criminal laws and ordinances, and the criminal justice system operations; technical police report writing; modern fingerprinting and crime scene photography technique; courtroom procedures and testimony;  the collection, packaging, preservation, and specialized processing of evidence; and knowledge of evidence disposal procedures.Ability to operate photographic, fingerprint lifting, and other equipment used in the collection of evidence; observe and record events accurately and completely; read and write legibly, to make written notes, and to prepare detailed technical reports and correspondence; stand, walk, sit, and operate a police vehicle safely for prolonged periods of time both during the day and at night; and speak and enunciate clearly to communicate effectively with other individuals in person, over the telephone, and over a radio. Hearing ability sufficient to understand radio transmissions and conversations with other individuals both in person and over a telephone.  Minimum Education & Experience:Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. An equivalent combination of education and experience that is determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.Special Requirements:Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license and a good driving record as determined by the City of Winter Haven.  Absence of non-prescribed controlled substances in the applicant's system as verified through a screening process administered by a laboratory approved by the City of Winter Haven. Physical / Environmental Factors:Must have the physical ability, strength, and flexibility to perform the job functions in the work environment.  Reasonable accommodations will be made for otherwise qualified individuals with a disability.  Due to the nature of this duty, there is a foreseeable risk for exposure to blood and viral pathogens as a normal course of duty.APPLY NOWAN EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER AND A DRUG-FREE WORKPLACEOur Mission: Enriching lifestyle through exceptional service.
