Residents in the Madison River Valley, Beaverhead and Western Madison below 6000ft, Ruby Mountains, Southern Beaverhead Mountains, Gallatin and Madison County Mountains, and Centennial Mountains should be aware of gusty winds this morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Great Falls, MT, has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective immediately until 4:30 AM MDT today, September 28, 2026.

At 3:58 AM MDT, Doppler radar detected a line of showers and thunderstorms extending from 9 miles west of Lima to 9 miles southwest of West Yellowstone, moving north at 40 mph. This system is producing wind gusts of up to 30 mph.

These winds could potentially knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured outdoor objects. Locations impacted include West Yellowstone, Lima, Monida, Lakeview, Snowline, Dell, and Yellowstone Village.

The NWS advises that if you are outdoors in the affected areas, you should consider seeking shelter inside a building until the statement expires at 4:30 AM MDT.
