Study Links Hygiene Protocol to Reduced Bloodstream Infections in ICU Patients

A study on antibiotic-resistant bacteria in hospital intensive-care units revealed that a specific hygiene protocol correlated with reduced bloodstream infections. Researchers focused on the impact of using germ-killing soap and ointment on all ICU patients.

The study indicated that this approach reduced bloodstream infections by up to 44 percent. The antiseptic treatment also led to a significant reduction in the presence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, commonly known as MRSA.
