Indiana Tourism Shatters Records with Spring Surge
INDIANAPOLIS (Day.News) — Indiana's tourism sector roared into spring 2026 with record-breaking visitor counts, capping a streak of stellar performance following blockbuster years in 2024 and 2025. While specific spring figures remain under wraps pending the full state report, the momentum from 83 million visitors and $16.9 billion in spending in 2024 — announced by Gov. Mike Braun in December 2025 — has carried over, with early indicators showing even stronger attendance at key attractions. The surge generated $3.2 billion in tax revenue last year, including $1.1 billion for state coffers, supporting over 210,000 jobs statewide.
In Indianapolis, Visit Indy reported 2025 as a historic high, with $6.4 billion in visitor spending, 30.5 million visitors and 78,000 hospitality jobs sustained — including more downtown hotel bookings than in record-setting 2024. Morgan Snyder, Visit Indy's senior director of public relations and film, highlighted the downtown occupancy boom during the annual State of Tourism address. Business travel jumped 10% and international visits rose 4.7% statewide in 2024, trends accelerating into 2025 and now spring 2026.
Local destinations from the Indiana Dunes to Bloomington's attractions saw packed springs, with every $1 in visitor spending retaining 65 cents in the state economy, per Rockport Analytics data. Officials credit targeted promotions, events like the Indianapolis 500 buildup and robust recovery in group travel. As summer approaches, tourism leaders anticipate continued growth, bolstering Main Streets in communities across the Hoosier State.
