Boone County Landfill and Recycling Services announce holiday closures

Boone County Landfill & Recycling Services will observe several holiday closures throughout the year, impacting regular operating hours for residents. The facility, located at 1266 223rd Drive in Boone, near the familiar grounds of the Boone Speedway, will be closed on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

The landfill and recycling center operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Residents are reminded that the facility accepts a variety of recyclable materials, including cardboard, newspaper, magazines, office paper, tin cans, aluminum cans, plastic bottles and jugs (numbers 1 and 2), and glass bottles and jars in clear, green, and brown varieties. This helps keep our community, from the historic downtown to the riverfront parks, looking its best.

For plastic recycling, items should be rinsed and lids removed. Similarly, glass bottles and jars should be cleaned before drop-off.

Residents with questions regarding accepted materials or holiday schedules can contact Boone County Landfill & Recycling Services at (515) 433-0587 or by fax at (515) 433-0588.
