Suncoast Credit Union Grants $316K to Lee Schools

Bonita Springs students will gain expanded learning opportunities through a $316,500 annual grant from Suncoast Credit Union to the School District of Lee County. The funding will enhance educational programs and student participation in academic and artistic pursuits.

The grant supports initiatives such as the Lee County Spelling Bee, Art Walk, the Lee County Student Film & Television competition, and the Young People’s Concert at the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra. It will also fund five new PreK classrooms district-wide and expand enrichment programs in Career and Technical Education, JROTC, and Adult Education.

Dr. Denise Carlin, superintendent of the School District of Lee County, thanked Suncoast Credit Union for its commitment. "Suncoast Credit Union is investing in our students at every stage, from a child's first PreK classroom to a senior preparing for a career," Carlin said. "It tells our students that this community believes in them, and we are grateful for a partner that shows up for public education year after year."

Suncoast Credit Union, Florida's largest credit union, established the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation to support children's education, health, and emotional well-being. The Foundation funds local initiatives through a member-driven program that donates four cents for every debit or credit card transaction. Since 1990, it has distributed over $68 million.

Kevin Johnson, president and CEO of Suncoast Credit Union, cited the organization's 90-year commitment to education, noting its founding by educators. "We are honored to support the students of Lee County and recognize the far-reaching impact this donation will have throughout the community," Johnson said.
