HOLMES COUNTY, FL – Residents in Bonifay and Ponce De Leon are under an immediate Tropical Storm Warning, issued October 8 at 8:01 AM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. This warning remains effective until 4:15 PM UTC today.

Immediate action is required to prepare for hazardous winds, potential major flooding, and the possibility of several tornadoes. Winds are forecast to reach 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including damage to lightweight structures and broken tree limbs. Complete all outdoor preparations now.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, potentially higher in some areas. This could lead to extensive flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.

The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter immediately.
