Holmes County is under a Tropical Storm Warning, with residents urged to prepare immediately for severe winds, major flooding, and the potential for multiple tornadoes, as issued by NWS Tallahassee.
HOLMES COUNTY, FL – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Holmes County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 5:22 PM EDT. This severe warning includes Bonifay and Ponce De Leon.
Residents are advised to complete all remaining efforts to protect life and property as soon as possible and prepare for significant wind damage. Wind speeds are forecast at 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with potential for winds of 58 to 73 mph. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This carries a potential for major flooding. Heed any flood watches and warnings; evacuations and rescues are likely. Additionally, the situation is favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats are urged to relocate to safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if issued.
