Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Holmes County: Act Now
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Holmes County, including Bonifay and Ponce De Leon, urging immediate preparations for dangerous winds, major flooding, and the potential for several tornadoes.
HOLMES COUNTY, FL – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Holmes County, effective immediately. Residents in Bonifay and Ponce De Leon are advised to complete all remaining preparations to protect life and property now.
Dangerous winds are expected, with forecasts of 20-30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. There is a potential for winds to reach 58 to 73 mph. Significant impacts include damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings. Large trees may be snapped or uprooted, causing impassable roads due to debris. Scattered power and communication outages are likely. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Major flooding from an additional 3-6 inches of rain is possible, with localized higher amounts. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers, streams, and ditches may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Many roads may become impassable.
Furthermore, conditions are favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats must relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if issued. Tornadoes can cause considerable damage, power loss, and communication failures. This warning is effective until 4:30 PM UTC today.
