The South Dakota Department of Transportation is hiring temporary snowplow operators ahead of the upcoming winter season. The reserve positions run from late September through early May, with employees working as needed based on weather and road conditions. Pay ranges from $22.80 to $24.60 an hour, depending on experience, and training is provided. Applicants must be at least 18, have a valid driver’s license and hold a Class A or Class B commercial driver’s license. A tank endorsement is required within 30 days of being hired. Operators should be able to operate heavy equipment and respond quickly during snow and ice events. The positions are temporary and do not include benefits. SDDOT says reserve operators help keep state highways safe and passable during winter weather.
