Wind Advisory Issued: Prepare for Gusts Up to 55 MPH, Possible Outages
A Wind Advisory is in effect from 5 PM today to 11 AM EDT Sunday for multiple counties, with gusts up to 55 mph expected, posing risks of unsecured objects blowing and potential power outages. Secure outdoor objects and use caution while driving.
A Wind Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Blacksburg, VA, effective from 5 PM today until 11 AM EDT Sunday, October 11. Residents in Ashe and Watauga Counties in North Carolina, Grayson, Smyth, and Tazewell Counties in Virginia, and Mercer, Summers, and Western Greenbrier Counties in West Virginia are advised to take precautions.
East winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 mph, with gusts potentially up to 55 mph. These strong winds may blow around unsecured outdoor objects, and tree limbs could be brought down. Power outages are a possibility, particularly in higher terrain locations.
The NWS advises that winds of this strength can make driving challenging, especially for high-profile vehicles. Exercise extra caution if traveling. All residents in the affected areas should secure outdoor objects to prevent them from becoming projectiles. These conditions are associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Isaias.
