NBA Considers Modified Lottery System to Discourage Tanking
The NBA is considering a change to the draft lottery system. Commissioner Adam Silver confirmed the league has a proposal ready for the Board of Governors' consideration later this month. The proposal, referred to as the '3-2-1 lottery,' aims to reduce the incentive for teams to intentionally lose games, a practice known as tanking.
The proposed system would modify the odds for the top lottery picks. The specifics of the new odds structure will be presented to the Board during the vote. The current system gives the three worst teams an equal 14% chance of winning the top pick. The NBA hopes the modified system will provide a more balanced approach and encourage competitive play throughout the entire season.
