The National Weather Service forecasts the river will continue rising over the next one to two weeks, with confidence growing for minor to moderate flooding across much of the waterway. In the Dubuque area, the river is projected to crest early next week before moving downstream toward communities like Bellevue and Clinton in Pool 13.

Evacuation advisories target low-lying areas, prompting action from local emergency managers. The DNR's Mississippi River Monitoring Station in Bellevue, which tracks fisheries, water quality and aquatic vegetation in Pool 13, reports heightened vigilance as part of the Upper Mississippi River Restoration Program—a collaboration with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, USGS and neighboring states. River gauges at McGregor and Rock Island show stages climbing steadily, underscoring the threat to farms, homes and infrastructure.

New tools bolster preparedness: The Iowa Flood Center's scenario-based inundation maps, spanning from Dubuque's Lock and Dam No. 11 to Keokuk's Lock and Dam No. 19, detail flood extent and depth via the Iowa Flood Information System (IFIS). These maps, integrated with the DNR's advanced 2D Base Level Engineering models since 2020, factor in riverine and stormwater risks using statewide LiDAR data. Officials urge residents to check IFIS for real-time forecasts and evacuation routes amid the swelling waters.
