His research aims to equip dentists, often first responders in office emergencies, to manage unexpected situations confidently and effectively. The data he has collected has already improved incident reporting and patient care within the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics.“Research has given me a chance to exercise problem-solving skills that have shaped how I think about situations inside and out of school,” says Poppen. “I’m grateful for the supportive faculty who have helped me grow as a student and future clinician.”Poppen has presented his work at local and national conferences and served in leadership roles for the college’s Student Research Program. After graduation, he plans to pursue a career in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
