Bibb County, AL – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Bibb County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 6:57 PM CDT. Residents in Centreville and surrounding areas are urged to shelter from hazardous wind and prepare for major flooding.

Peak winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are expected from early Saturday morning until Saturday afternoon. Last-minute efforts to protect property should now be complete. The NWS advises that the area is subject to limited wind damage, and residents should act now to shelter.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rainfall, and locally higher amounts, anticipated. This could lead to major flooding, potentially prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow, and floodwaters could enter many structures. Driving conditions will become dangerous, with numerous road closures likely. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should strongly consider protective actions and heed all flood watches and warnings.

Tornadoes are not expected, though showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. For more information and safety guidelines, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
