Beverly Hills Bans Single-Use Plastics and Styrofoam

Beverly Hills businesses must now use compostable or recyclable alternatives to single-use plastics and expanded polystyrene, following a city ordinance adopted March 18, 2024.

The ban applies to all food service items, including cutlery, takeout containers and straws. The city prohibits both the distribution and sale of these products.

The city provided compliance resources for businesses: the full ordinance in the Municipal Code, a fact sheet available in English and Spanish, and a list of compliant products in PDF and spreadsheet formats. Businesses seeking help can apply for a waiver through the city.
