A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Jefferson County, including Birmingham and Hoover, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours.

Residents should plan for hazardous winds, with peak gusts up to 55 mph, from early Saturday morning through Saturday afternoon. Secure loose outdoor objects like porches, awnings, and sheds. Prepare for potential damage to trees and fences, and scattered power outages. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Expect 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, potentially causing moderate flooding. Rivers and small streams may overflow, leading to road closures and hazardous driving conditions. Be prepared for possible evacuations and rescues in flood-vulnerable areas. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time, though gusty winds from showers and thunderstorms are possible. Stay informed of the latest forecast. For more information and preparedness tips, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
