A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Jefferson County, including Birmingham and Hoover, effective immediately until October 10 at 3:00 AM UTC. The National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, reports severe conditions are expected.

Wind speeds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are forecast. Residents should move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Expect limited damage to outdoor structures, downed tree limbs, and potential road closures due to debris. Scattered power and communications outages are possible. Complete all property protection efforts now.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. An additional 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, could lead to moderate flooding. Emergency plans should account for potential evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow, causing flooding in low-lying areas and hazardous driving conditions. Some road and bridge closures are anticipated.

No tornadoes are expected at this time. Stay informed of the latest forecast updates from the National Weather Service. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
