Gusty Showers Moving North Through Tifton: Seek Shelter, Secure Objects

A Special Weather Statement is in effect for Turner, Tift, Ben Hill, Irwin, and Berrien counties until 6:15 PM EDT, warning of gusty winds up to 40 mph and heavy rainfall.

Residents in Turner, Tift, Ben Hill, Irwin, and Berrien counties are advised to seek shelter indoors as a Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL. As of 5:45 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicates gusty showers over Tifton, moving north at 20 mph.

The primary hazard is wind gusts up to 40 mph. These winds could potentially knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured outdoor objects. Locations expected to be impacted include Fitzgerald, Tifton, Ocilla, Enigma, Alapaha, Mystic, Unionville, Phillipsburg, Rebecca, Gladys, Osierfield, Glory, Harding, Waterloo, Pinetta, Ashton, Irwinville, Irwinville Airport, Wray, and Abba.

The Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and is set to expire at 6:15 PM EDT today, October 3rd. In addition to gusty winds, torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, which may lead to localized flooding. The NWS advises against driving vehicles through flooded roadways.

Please take immediate action to secure any loose outdoor items and remain indoors until the statement expires.
