Raymond Edward “Skip” Wetzel Jr. (83) of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 17th. He lived a life grounded in love, service, and quiet strength, leaving behind a legacy built on kindness, hard work, generosity, and devotion to those he loved most.Skip was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Kay Wetzel. Both Skip and Shirley proudly served as veterans of the United States Navy, where they first met and began a lifelong partnership built on loyalty, laughter, and unwavering commitment. Their marriage was the foundation of the family they built together and remained the great love story of his life.  He is survived by his sons, Chris Wetzel and Blake Wetzel; his daughter-in-law, Andrea Wetzel; and his cherished grandchildren, Addison, Cole, Davis, and Bryce, all of whom brought tremendous pride and joy to his life. Family meant everything to Skip, and he treasured every moment spent with his children and grandchildren.Skip believed deeply in serving others. He was a devoted volunteer and longtime supporter of the Maugansville Ruritan Club, generously giving both his time and resources to help his community for many years, continuing right up until his health no longer allowed. He also helped found the Maugansville Little League, creating opportunities for generations of young athletes to learn teamwork, sportsmanship, and community pride. Skip proudly worked for decades at Mack Truck, where he demonstrated consistency and commitment. Helping others was not something he did for recognition. It was simply who he was.Above all else, Skip was a devoted father and role model. He taught his sons the importance of hard work, honesty, integrity, and giving to others. His lessons were not delivered through words alone, but through steady example, humility, and the way he lived his life each day.Skip will be remembered for his caring heart, his willingness to lend a hand, his dedication to friends and family, and the quiet strength that defined his life.
