No Wheels Zone – Downtown RestrictionsTo ensure the safety and enjoyment of all pedestrians, the City of Charlevoix has designated specific areas of downtown as No Wheels Zones. This means the use of bicycles, golf carts, e-bikes, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades, and other wheeled devices are not permitted in the following areas:Between Hurlbut Street and Pine River LaneAlong the Pine River ChannelFrom the Waterfront (Round Lake) to the storefronts on Bridge StreetThese restrictions help maintain a safe, walkable environment in our busiest pedestrian areas. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping these public spaces safe for everyone.Children aged 12 or under may operate an e-bike or a powered micromobility device in accordance with state law under adult supervision. Children 17 and under must wear a properly fitted helmet at all times while riding.Important Reminder:Bicycles and e-bikes are welcome throughout the city, but must follow all rules of the road when riding on city streets.Golf Cart Use in the City LimitsFor the safety of all residents and visitors, golf carts are not permitted on any city streets or sidewalks within the City of Charlevoix. This includes residential, commercial and downtown areas.To operate a golf cart beyond the limitations set for standard golf carts, it must be classified as a Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV) and meet the following requirements to be considered street-legal.Must be licensed and registered through the Michigan Secretary of StateOperator must have a valid driver's licenseMust follow all state and local traffic laws (May not be operated on M-66 or US-31/Bridge Street)Must have a top speed between 20-25 mphMust be equipped withHeadlights and taillightsBrake lightsTurn signalsReflectorsMirrorsSeat beltsWindshieldGem Cart Use in the City LimitsGEM Cars (Global Electronic Motorcars) are classified as Low-Speed Vehicles (LSVs) and are allowed for use within the City of Charlevoix, provided they meet all safety, registration, and operational requirements.
