Berlin Property Tax Increase Proposed for 2027
A property tax increase of approximately 1.25 cents per $100 of assessed value—a 1.5 percent increase—has been proposed for the town's fiscal year 2027 budget. The proposal will be introduced at an April 27 council meeting. For a $500,000 home, the increase amounts to roughly $5 per month.
The increase has been attributed to inflationary pressures on municipal operations since the COVID-19 pandemic. Berlin has not raised the tax rate since July 1, 2023, when it increased by the same amount.
According to budget documents, Berlin maintains healthy reserves above historical levels and independent auditors have confirmed the town's solid financial standing. The town is not operating in deficit.
The draft budget does not currently fund a contingency line item or additional support for the Berlin Fire Company and EMS, despite requests for increased funding. Healthcare renewal costs came in lower than anticipated.
Residents and business owners are invited to attend council meetings and provide feedback as the budget moves toward final adoption.
