The Boone County Clerk & Recorder’s Office is launching a new initiative aimed at protecting local property owners from real estate deed fraud. The Deed Fraud Referral Program, established under the authority of 55 ILCS 5/3-5010.5, creates a formal process for identifying and reporting suspected fraudulent real estate document recordings to law enforcement for investigation.
This program is designed to bolster security for Boone County property owners by providing a structured method for flagging suspicious activity. It also seeks to enhance collaboration between county offices and law enforcement agencies, promoting greater transparency and maintaining public trust in the county's official records system.
The program will officially take effect 90 days from the date of the notice. This means the new referral process will be operational in approximately three months.
Boone County property owners are encouraged to take advantage of the no-cost Property Fraud Alert Program. This service offers an additional layer of protection by helping to safeguard property records against fraudulent activity.
For more information about the Deed Fraud Referral Program or to register for the Property Fraud Alert Program, residents can contact the Boone County Clerk & Recorder’s Office at (815) 544-3103 or visit the county's official website.
