Diners generally tip more for full table service or at establishments where they are regulars compared to quick-service or takeout orders. This trend remained consistent over the past two years, with full-service restaurants seeing an average tip of 19.3% and quick-service restaurants averaging 15.8%. Takeout transactions received the lowest average tip at 13.7%.

This gap reflects lower tipping when personal interaction and table service are reduced or absent. The analysis found a consistent difference of about 3.5 percentage points between full-service and quick-service tipping percentages.

Personal connection also plays a role. A survey cited in the data indicates that 77% of diners tip more at restaurants where they are regulars, often increasing their standard tip by 5% to 15% or more. This suggests familiarity and a sense of community can influence generosity.
