Belle Isle Rolls Out New On-Demand Bulk Pickup System Citywide

Belle Isle residents now use an on-demand, appointment-based system for bulk item pickups, which replaced the previous quarterly schedule on September 1, 2024. The city implemented the change to improve waste management efficiency and reduce illegal dumping.

Residents can schedule bulk item collections online or by phone. Each household receives two free bulk pickups per calendar year, with each pickup limited to five items. Additional pickups beyond the free allocation cost $25 per pickup, also limited to five items.

Acceptable bulk items include furniture, mattresses, and large appliances without refrigerants. The city does not collect items such as construction debris, tires, and hazardous waste.

The new system, which began nearly two years ago, aimed to streamline the process for residents and ensure more timely removal of large waste items. Residents needing to schedule a bulk pickup should contact the city's waste management services online or by phone to arrange their collection.
