Arlington ISD Teachers Earn Up to $36,000 in Incentive Pay

Arlington Independent School District received state approval to join the Teacher Incentive Allotment program, allowing classroom teachers to earn up to $36,000 annually in additional compensation.
The state-funded program rewards effective teaching and targets high-need schools. Arlington ISD will pilot TIA at 24 campuses starting next school year, with first payouts in July 2028.
Teachers who achieve certain performance designations qualify for higher pay while remaining in the classroom rather than moving into administrative roles. The Texas Legislature created the program to address teacher retention challenges statewide.
"TIA will help us recognize and reward the exceptional work our teachers do every day," Superintendent Dr. Matt Smith said.
Doloress Johnson, executive director of human resources, said the program aims to keep experienced teachers in classrooms where they have the greatest impact on student learning.
The district has not announced which 24 schools will participate in the pilot program. Full implementation will roll out through the 2027-28 school year.
