High Wind Warning Issued for Southern Mountains, Gusts Up to 80 MPH Expected
A High Wind Warning is in effect for the Southern Mountains from Wednesday, October 11, at 10:31 AM MDT until midnight tonight, with gusts up to 80 mph expected, prompting calls for residents to secure loose objects and exercise driving caution.
Residents in the Southern Mountains are advised to secure loose objects and exercise extreme caution while driving as a High Wind Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Salt Lake City, UT.
The warning is effective immediately, Wednesday, October 11, at 10:31 AM MDT, and will remain in effect until midnight MDT tonight, October 12. South winds of 30 to 40 mph are expected, with gusts potentially reaching up to 80 mph. Gusts as high as 97 mph have been observed on Big Mountain south of Enterprise, and around 75 mph near Brian Head.
These severe winds can move loose debris, damage property, and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles and those towing trailers. The NWS urges drivers to use extra caution. Secure any outdoor items that could be blown around or damaged by the wind.
