Army Initiates Plan for Microreactor Construction at Five Bases

WASHINGTON D.C. - The U.S. Army has embarked on a plan to build microreactors at five of its bases, selecting five companies for the development. The Army will award these companies a combined total of up to $2.2 billion over five years.

These funds become available as the selected companies achieve specific performance milestones. The awards cover the costs for companies to own, construct, and operate the microreactors.

This Army initiative aligns with a wider national strategy to expand nuclear power infrastructure. Federal agencies have increasingly explored smaller-scale nuclear technology to enhance energy independence and reliability.
