Drivers in southeastern South Carolina and Southeast Georgia are advised to slow down and use extra caution this morning due to developing areas of fog, according to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston SC.

The NWS reports that fog has begun to form early this morning, October 2, 2026, and may become locally dense. This could significantly reduce visibility on roadways until the statement expires at 9:00 AM UTC (5:00 AM EDT).

Affected areas include Effingham, Tattnall, Evans, Long, Inland Bryan, Coastal Bryan, Inland Chatham, Coastal Chatham, Inland Liberty, Coastal Liberty, Inland McIntosh, Coastal McIntosh, Inland Jasper, Beaufort, and Coastal Jasper counties.

If you are driving this morning, the NWS urges you to slow down and leave extra distance ahead of your vehicle. This will provide additional time to react if a sudden stop is necessary.
