Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Southern Hancock: Prepare Now

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Southern Hancock County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 10:01 AM CDT by the National Weather Service New Orleans. Residents in Kiln, Pearlington, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland should finalize preparations now.

Life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations should be completed urgently. If evacuation orders are issued for your area, leave immediately.

Winds are expected to reach 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39-57 mph. Secure loose outdoor objects, protect property, and anticipate limited damage to porches, awnings, and sheds. Scattered power and communication outages are possible. Roads may become impassable due to debris.

Approximately 1 inch of rain is forecast, with potential for localized flooding. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Tornadoes are not expected. This warning is set to expire on October 8 at 6:15 PM UTC. For more information, visit msema.org.
