A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Southern Hancock County, including Kiln, Pearlington, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland, by the National Weather Service New Orleans, effective immediately as of October 8 at 4:03 AM CDT. This warning indicates severe conditions are expected.

Residents should act now to complete preparations for hazardous winds and life-threatening storm surge. Peak winds are forecast to be 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with the potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to unanchored mobile homes, sheds, and large tree limbs is possible, leading to scattered power outages and impassable roads due to debris.

Life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible between Friday morning and Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations should be completed soon. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Significant impacts from storm surge include damage to buildings near the coast, washed-out escape routes, major beach erosion, and damage to marinas.

Around 1 inch of rainfall is expected, with little to no potential for flooding. Tornadoes are not expected. This warning is in effect until October 8 at 12:15 PM UTC. For more information, visit msema.org.
