A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Southern Hancock County, including the communities of Kiln, Pearlington, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland. The National Weather Service (NWS) in New Orleans, LA, issued the warning today, October 8, at 4:13 PM CDT.

Life-threatening storm surge is possible, with the potential for 3-5 feet above ground in surge-prone areas. The window of concern for storm surge is from Friday morning until Saturday morning. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations should be completed before conditions become unsafe.

Wind speeds are forecast to be below tropical storm force, with peak gusts of 20-30 mph, potentially reaching 40 mph. While the sustained wind should remain below tropical storm force, conditions may be gusty. There is no significant rainfall forecast, though localized flooding from heavy rain is possible. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions and heed any flood watches and warnings. Tornadoes are not expected.
