Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Northern Hancock; Prepare for High Winds

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Northern Hancock, affecting areas including Necaise and Sellers. The National Weather Service in New Orleans, LA, issued the warning today, October 8, 2026, at 10:01 AM CDT. This warning is effective immediately and expires at 6:15 PM UTC today.

Residents should plan for hazardous winds, with peak gusts up to 35 mph, and potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Complete preparations before winds become hazardous. Limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect some large tree limbs to break and scattered power outages.

Localized flooding from approximately 1 inch of rain is also possible. Emergency plans should include potential flooding from heavy rain. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Rivers and small streams may rise, and some brief road closures are possible due to ponding water.
