Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Southern Hancock, Life-Threatening Surge Possible
A Tropical Storm Watch and Storm Surge Watch have been issued for Southern Hancock, including Kiln, Pearlington, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland, with life-threatening storm surge and significant wind damage possible.
Southern Hancock residents, including Kiln, Pearlington, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland, are urged to complete preparations now as the National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a Tropical Storm Watch, effective today, October 7, at 10:12 AM CDT. A Storm Surge Watch is also in effect, indicating potential life-threatening inundation.
Life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Residents in surge-prone areas should assemble disaster supplies and know their evacuation routes. Leave immediately if evacuation orders are given for your area.
Tropical storm-force winds with gusts up to 35 mph are possible, with a potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. Prepare for significant wind damage, including possible damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes. Unsecured objects can become dangerous projectiles. Power and communications outages are possible. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.
Rainfall of 1-3 inches, with locally higher amounts, could lead to localized flooding. Heed any flood watches and warnings. The tornado threat remains low. For more information, visit msema.org.
