Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Southern Hancock County; Prepare Now
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Southern Hancock County, urging residents to prepare for dangerous winds, life-threatening storm surge, and localized flooding starting Friday morning.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Southern Hancock County, including Kiln, Pearlington, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland, effective today, October 7, at 1:00 PM CDT by the National Weather Service New Orleans LA. This watch remains in effect until 9:00 PM CDT. Residents are urged to prepare for dangerous wind and life-threatening storm surge.
Significant wind damage is possible, with peak wind forecasts of 20-30 mph and gusts to 35 mph. However, there is a potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. Efforts to protect life and property should begin immediately. Damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes is possible, along with downed trees and power outages. Complete preparations now before hazardous winds arrive.
Life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Damage to coastal buildings and roadways, along with beach erosion, is anticipated. Assemble disaster supplies and know your evacuation route. If evacuation orders are issued for your area, leave immediately.
Localized flooding from 1-3 inches of rain is also possible. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information, visit msema.org.
