Georgia Woman Sentenced 20 Years for Meth Trafficking in Bay County

A Georgia woman was sentenced to 20 years in prison Thursday after a jury convicted her of trafficking more than 200 grams of methamphetamine into Bay County.

Prosecutors said she transported approximately one kilogram of methamphetamine across state lines. The defendant claimed she acted under coercion from a cartel, but the jury rejected that defense.

Florida law mandates a minimum 15-year sentence for trafficking more than 200 grams of methamphetamine. The judge imposed 20 years. She must serve at least 85 percent of her sentence before becoming eligible for release.

State Attorney Larry Basford's office prosecuted the case as part of its effort to combat methamphetamine trafficking in the Panama City area and surrounding communities.
